My baby girl has arrived to the world! Reign was born on Aug. 2 at 5:30 pm. My due date was Aug. 1, so I thought for sure she wasn't going to come until my scheduled induced date lol. The labor and delivery process could not have been more amazing! My water broke that morning at 7 am. I literally had just woken up, sat up in bed and heard a popping sound, then felt a gush of water. My hubby was barely awake when I told him my water broke. Within seconds he was up and so excited! He could not believe it was really happening. He got all frantic and giddy, asking what I need and what we need to do to get to the hospital.
I got the epidural right when we got to the hospital. In the beginning I thought I wanted to try going natural, but after going through my intestinal infection while I was 8 months pregnant, and experiencing the extreme pain with that, I knew I just wanted to be pain free and enjoy the birth of my sweet girl. I was in labor from 8:30 am-5:30 pm. I progressed about 2 cm every 2 hours, and started pushing at 5 pm and had Reign at 5:35 pm. The moment she was placed in my arms I just started bawling so hard. I could not believe my sweet girl was finally in my arms and all this was real! It always seemed like she was so far away and that I would never meet her. Anyone else feel that way while they were pregnant? Now that she is here all I can do is stare at her and kiss her sweet cheeks all day. Who knew you could love someone so much?!?
I had so much fun decorating Reign's nursery the last few weeks of my pregnancy. I was in full nesting mode and wanted to make everything perfect for her. It helped the last few weeks (which seem to last 134080 years) of pregnancy pass a little faster!
There are so many things that are needed for a babies arrival, I have a couple of must haves that have made my life so much easier! My number one item that I use everyday/night and LOVE is the DockATot. This is a multi-functional lounger, co-sleeper and playtime lounger, that you can basically put anywhere. It is easily transferable, and super lightweight. I love all the fabric styles and that they are 100% cotton. I have the Deluxe version which is for babies 0-6 months. The Grand size is for 9-36 months. It is great for transitioning babies to their crib or toddlers to their bed.
I 100% recommend this product for every momma. I love it because I can put Reign right between my husband and I. I am right there when she cries, and can easily feed and console her. It is a lifesaver!!
This last week with Reign here has been a dream :) If you have any suggestions for this new mommy, or products that helped you, I would love to here!
Being a new mom I guess I always expected breast feeding to just come naturally, and I would be able to nurse my baby as long as she needed me to. No one ever told me that it would be one of the hardest things I've had to do being a new mom, and its definitely not something that comes naturally to me! I know there are moms out there that feed perfectly, and also have some left over to keep a nice stash in the freezer. I wish I could say that was me but its not.
The first month or so I was doing really well breast feeding. Cece was latching great, and I was feeding her enough that I also had some extra that I could pump and store away. Around 2 months it almost seemed overnight that I wasn't able to feed her as much as she wanted. She was sucking me dry on both sides and cranky as can be after! I had no idea what was wrong with her. I thought she was getting enough because she had always been satisfied before so I didn't think that feeding was the problem. once I suspected that she may not be getting enough food I tried everything to get my milk supply up and nothing seemed to help. I tried pumping every two hours, mothers milk tea, making sure I drank tons of water etc. I was going crazy, and was constantly in a state of stress because I couldn't get her to stop crying. Finally one night I had enough and I decided to try to give her some extra formula after I nursed her because she was screaming and I couldn't get her to stop. I had only fed her an extra ounce of formula after nursing her and it gave her the extra little top off she needed! She stopped crying, seemed satisfied, and slept so good that night! After that I started nursing her on both sides and then giving her a 2 ounce bottle after and she is a completely new baby! She sleeps better, is content after eating, and just overall a more calm and a wonderful baby!
While nursing Cece, I was in dire need of a good bra that was comfortable, soft, and convenient. We were lucky enough to find Cake Maternity and both Ashlyn and I got some amazing nursing bras! This bra is awesome because there is a clip that you can undo to remove a flap that is over your nipple area so you are able to quickly make yourself available to your little one when they are screaming in hunger. It also doesn't expose your whole breast so you can feel comfortable feeding in public without feeling like your exposing yourself to the whole world. BTW, I admire the moms who are comfortable enough to just whip it out in public! When your baby needs it, you've gotta provide it! I feel like I'm always scrambling to find an extra room or area where I can find some privacy. Maybe with the more babies I have, the more comfortable I will get.
I think being a mom is so important, and it is so amazing because only you know your baby best, and only YOU can deicide what is best for you baby. I know theres a stigma out there that women should only breast feed if they are able to and its not good to supplement with formula, but based on my own experience with my own baby I say do what ever you feel as a mother is right for your baby! I know my baby is 100 times happier when she gets enough food and formula has been the only option for me to make sure that happens. All our bras are linked below, so if you are in need of a comfy, functional, and affordable nursing bra check out Cake Maternity! The two that we have used and LOVE are the Rock Candy Nursing bra and Crossiant Underwire Nursing bra.
One of the most fun things about having a baby is seeing how much they grow and change CONSTANTLY! As much as I hate having her grow up, its so fun to see her little personality coming through, and watching her develop.
Right out of the womb Cece was our little observer. She hardly even cried when she came out because she was so intrigued by everything going on around her, and she was just watching everything! lol If you know Cece, you know that she will win in any staring contest because she'll sit there and observe every inch of your face without blinking! We have an ongoing challenge in our family to see who can win in a staring contest with her, and we still have yet to see anyone prevail.
When Cece was aorund 6 weeks old she stopped liking to be held like a "baby" and she wanted to look out and see everything around here. She LOVED to be held with her belly on my husbands forearm facing out, kind of like a football hold, and most of the time that was the only way she would be happy being held. Not soon after discovering how much she loved to be held on her stomach, we were contacted by Babocush to try out their product. I was so excited to try this product because it got exhausting having to hold her constantly, and I had nothing to put her on that would hold her the way she wanted to be held. This product is awesome because its like a little rounded cushion that you put on top of your Mamaroo, or any other swing you might have and your baby can lay on their stomach while it rocks them. Unfortunately, Babocush had some difficulties with their inventory and we weren't able to get the product for a couple months, so by the time I was able to try it out Cece was a little too old for it I think. I know she would have loved it if she were a little younger like around 6weeks to 3 months, but now that she can hold up her head and roll over, she gets a little antsy being strapped down in one place. Even though I think she is a little too old to enjoy it like I know she would have when she was just a wee little thing, I still put her in it from time to time and I think it is a great way to do tummy time. She hates tummy time for the most part, but when I put her in the Babocush she holds herself up with her arms, holds her head up great, and I can tell that it has really helped with her overall strength.

Ashlyn here! So I am officially back in Utah! It has been a crazy roller coaster these past couple weeks. We got back from California the 17th and I was just so so sick, that I ended up staying in Utah instead of going back to New Orleans. I am going to go over all the details in a later post, because I think it will be super important to share my story with you guys. Pregnancy and sickness is just NOT fun, and along with that, I have a disease that I have been struggling with for the last year, which has gotten worse with pregnancy. I want people to know that pictures on social media are just the surface of someones life, its not by any means reality.
But with all that put aside, we did have a blast in California! We got a few things from Red Dress Boutique that we wore out there and loved. Sarah's pineapple swimmy was a total hit, everyone kept asking about it! We actually really love Red Dress Boutique because they have a great price point and tons of clothes, shoes and accessories to pick from. Right now they are having a 70% off sale, so definitely check it out!!
I seriously can't believe I only have 3 more weeks until my baby girl arrives!! My husband will be moving back to Utah like literally a week before she's due, so I am really hoping she doesn't try and come early! Sarah was 10 days early with Cece, so there is a possibility I could be the same, lets just hope not. lol. I would be devastated!!
Anyway, I hope you guys are enjoying your summer!! Thanks so much for reading :)
